Have you wondered what it’s like to work at the forge? These classes offer the opportunity to learn the basics in a historic setting using traditional techniques. Perfect for both beginners who just want to try or those looking for foundational techniques to build their skills.

Beginning Blacksmithing I
Cost: $200
Maximum 4 participants
Participants in the Beginning I class will learn shop safety, fire management, tools and equipment, hammer control, tapering, pointing, bending, scrolling, and twisting. Each participant will learn these basic skills while completing three projects during one six-hour class session. Fee covers all tools and materials.
Beginning Blacksmithing II
Cost: $200
Maximum 3 participants
Participants in Beginning II class will build upon the lessons of Beginning I during one six-hour class session. The project completed will require more work with hammer and tong techniques while adding punching and drifting, chisels and splitting, and riveting. Must have completed Beginning Blacksmithing I. The cost covers all tools and materials.
Open Forge Time
Cost: $30 (10am-1pm or 1pm-4pm)
$60 (10am-4pm)

So, you have finished a blacksmithing class – Now What? The best way to develop and improve skills is through repetition. NGM is offering the opportunity for blacksmithing students to practice what they have learned with open show time. One of our smiths will be on hand to supervise the shop but this is not instructional time. It is the opportunity to practice. Cost covers tools, coal, and reasonable materials. Call for available dates & times.

Cancellations: Registrations cancelled within 30 days of the scheduled class will not be refunded. Registrations cancelled 30 days or more prior to the scheduled class will receive a refund of the class fee, less a 25% processing fee. In the event that the site has to cancel a session and is not able to reschedule it, registrants will receive a full refund.
