Summer Discovery at Newlin Grist Mill offers history- and nature-based experiences in an engaging outdoor environment for children ages 4-12. Campers share unique experiences that connect and expand their interactions with each other and their community. Summer Discovery is the place where learning is fun!
In this time of virtual school and online activities, we believe that kids need summer camp more than ever! At Summer Discovery, we strive to provide fun, engaging activities that encourage campers to follow their passions and connect with the world around them. Traditional camp fun like hiking, games, and scavenger hunts are intertwined with unique educational opportunities that highlight the nature and history our site has to offer.
On any given day, campers might be looking for frogs, building a sculpture of recycled materials, baking cookies from an 18th century recipe, or experimenting with unbreakable bubbles. There is no end to the fun adventures that can be had! Your camper’s We have worked hard to meet today’s challenges and adapt our lesson plans accordingly. Groups will be small and self-contained, and masks will be required. Your camper’s health and safety is our top priority.
Session 1: Around the World with Newlin – SOLD OUT
June 28-July 2, 8:30am-12:30pm
From the tallest forests to the driest deserts, the world is an amazing place! Join Newlin Grist Mill for a week-long journey from the tropical rainforest, to the polar ice sheets, and then deep under the sea. On our journey, we will meet amazing animals, learn about their awesome adaptations, and discover what makes our planet such an amazing place!
Session 2: Colonial Kids – SOLD OUT
July 19-23, 8:30am-12:30pm
What was life like for the people who called Newlin Grist Mill home in the 1700s? In this week of camp, we will explore the ways that everyday life has changed in the last 300 years—and consider what we have in common with our ancestors. Campers will try out 18th-century skills, see demonstrations of historic trades, and visit our 1704 Grist Mill!
Session 3: Full STEAM Ahead – ages 4-8 SOLD OUT; limited availability for ages 9-12
August 2-6, 8:30am-12:30pm
Our campers will go full STEAM ahead as they explore all things Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math in this hands-on week of fun. We’ll conduct awesome experiments, play amazing games, create fantastic works of art, explore new parts of the park, and generally having a good time with all of the exciting opportunities that nature has to offer!
